About Dr McKee
The science of weight loss has long been my passion. I started out studying a Bachelor degree and Master’s degree in Sport Science and Health, focusing on exercise and behaviour change psychology. While working with clients, I was struck by how many people had tried multiple weight loss methods and diets throughout their lives and yet were still unhappy with their weight. For most people, it often came down to one of two things – they didn’t feel they were in the right mindset or place in their lives for weight loss at that time or they didn’t feel they had enough self-control to resist temptation. Ultimately these people ‘fell off the wagon’.
In 2010, I commenced my PhD in the Psychology of weight loss to examine these exact questions. I wanted to know what makes someone successful at weight loss and maintenance, and why do so many others fail. My research papers included topics such as, how people juggle weight loss alongside their other goals, what drives us to give in to food temptation and if it was possible to teach people the skills they needed to resist temptation. My research was taken up by over 50 world media publications, including TIME magazine, The Times, Huffington Post and Women’s Health (some links can be found here and here).
I was overwhelmed by the public demand to seek further information. That’s when I decided to set up www.weightlossiq.co.uk in order to offer people a much needed alternative to the world of short-term, non evidence-based quick fixes which are everywhere today.
